I have read this once before and I like it even more this time around! I can almost relate to the relationship between Blanche and Stella. My sister is younger than I am but is definitely Blanche. She fishes for compliments and criticizes others looks and their sense of style all the time. It is only to make herself feel better… like Blanche. Blanche criticizes Stella a great deal but does show a real concern for her younger sister when Stanley shows his bad side. I really like how Blanche fishes for compliments from Stanley and he won’t give her any. I found this humorous. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it is nice to be complimented every now and then but she strives off of compliments and needs to be told how great she looks by everyone she comes into contact with. I think its funny that Stella gives into her just to shut her up.

Its funny because I have seen the movie and after reading the play, it puts the movie into a new light for me. The characters are so real and they are people you can picture I love how you brought up the sister conflict. It is such a huge issue but it is something people relate to. They seem to battle constantly but you can see the real genuine concern especially in the scene after Stanley beats Stella, Blanche would never want anything bad to happen to her baby sisiter.
I also liked the scene where Stanley refused to compliment Blanche. "I never met a woman that didnt know if she was good looking or not without being told, and some of them give themselves credit for more than the've got". I loved this little jab at Blanche by Stanley, she too gives herself credit for too much and she finds herself to be superior to everyone and everything, when reality is that she is not.
I thought the same thing about this piece. I too have a sister who can be related to Blanche. She is always looking for a compliment or for someone to notice her. I think that is why I really like this play, becuase I can relate to it in that way.
I also think it's funny how Blanche gives into her baby sister in order for her to be quiet. It's interesting how the characters are built so far. I'm kind of excited to see what the actors do with these characters once we get to the movie!
I compared my brother and myself to stella and blanche a little as well, and I don't necessarily think that he ever fishes for a compliment from me, but he does act as though he wants me to be aware of his accomplishments towards him almost like he needs some sort of approval from me, when reality the stuff he does like being a comedian on tv and doing shows all over is stuff that I really could never come close to doing.
