Usually I don’t like to read the book and watch the movie version. When I read something, I like to be able to picture things in my mind, the way I see it. I do like this movie though. I have noticed that the movie shows more feeling than the book. I can’t get that much feeling from stage directions as I do in film. I guess a movie is sometimes better because you can see the facial expressions and gestures just as they are meant to be. The film was definitely censored a bit from the screenplay. For instance, there is no reference to the four letter word or to homosexuality. When thinking about the actors and how they portray the characters, I think that Stanley is a very sexual and physical character. He seems to always be sweaty and have a tight t-shirt on that shows off his body. When he takes his shirt off in front of Blanche, I think this was maybe the director’s way of setting up some sexual tension between the two. Like we discussed in class, the director may have done this to lessen the harshness of the rape later on. As for Blanche, I thought she was much more dramatic in the book than she is on screen. That might be just my opinion. I liked how she touches her face when she is being flirty and looks down when she’s nervous. I do like this movie and I think that the actors all do a great part; however I do still like to JUST watch the movie or JUST read the book

I agree. I like this film version of the play. I am usually dissapointed in movie versions of books too. I read "The Notebook" and loved it. I was really dissapointed with the movie. It just didn't live up to the book. I also think that there seems to be a lot of sexual tension between Blanche and Stanley. You can tell that she wants to look at him when he take his shirt off. I definately would sneek a peak. He is great eyecandy!
Yes I agree with you..i like reading before seeing a play or movie as well! I did also pick up on the fact of how sexual stanley was..being all sweaty, taking his shirt off, and basically just his facial expressions and his tone of voice really capture the image of someone who would be considered lustful and sexual..its funny because while reading the play, you get the idea that he is good looking and everything, but so much more adds to the iamge when you see the movie
I agree I like the film version as well, I usually don't prefer the book over the movie ever. But I feel with Southern Literature its important to read it. There is something about the words in the book that make it seem more moving. But with a movie obviosly its more intereting and easier to follow.
